Hi guys im new to the forum and have find this site to be the most informitive so far and appreiciate the effort gone into providing technical information about the IBM machines anyway i have an issue i hope u guys can help me with.
First off i found the 24RF08 and soldered the cables then installed the software, made the basic device and powered up the notebook (R51)
waited till all activity stoped then connected the ground first and so on.
Got this message
Initializing timer...14318 OK!
File already exists. Overwrite? (Y|N): y
ERROR: Eeprom not available!
Powered down notebook and tried again this time no video display!!!!
Could this happen by shorting out the 24RF08 any help much appreiciated |

If you're shorting out the 24RF08 then you get into trouble.
SIPROG is also tricky, because if you don't do it right, for example if the zeners are not mounted well or maybe they are not even zeners after all, the SDA and SCL voltage could damage the motherboard.
I suppose a little test will enlighten me:
-connect the interface to COM1 and let the SDA and SCL wires on the air;
-execute the itester.exe and click <connect>. The timer will start and you will see "SDA/SCL out" and SDA in changing values. BTW, they must switch together after each 5 seconds, if not.. the SIPROG is not doing it;
- grab a voltmeter and check the voltage on SDA and SCL in respect to ground, they must be sort of:
SDA (1) = 4.0V-5.1V
SDA (0) = -0.6V
SCL (1) = 5.1V - sharp
SCL (0) = -0.6V _________________ Victor Voinea
