OK password we never put in locked up the 12gig hard drive. replaced both cmos and main battery, as kept getting error codes. got replacement laptop with much smaller harddrive works fine. Tried replacing harddrive with 12 gig from original laptop and still get locked out. Anyway to bypass the password to retrieve our muchly needed lost data and still use the larger harddrive. The replacement laptop only has a min memory capacity. Any help would be appreciated. Am confused as to whether it's a supervisor password or windows password that is locking our original harddrive out. Or could it be corrupted. Both laptop were bought from a dealer. Even he couldn't figure it out. From what I've read I think were out of luck but hoping for a miracle. |

The hd password is held on the drive not in cmos or else. Nonetheless, is true, old TPs use to block a drive if the SVP is set and HD security is enabled in BIOS.
If I understand your case correctly, the solution is to find out the SVP, cause that SVP will unlock your drive. 600E has ATMEL 24RF08, see the tutorial on how to get the dump and SVP.
