Hi!

I bought this old model, with password. I'm disassembled the laptop, but i'm cannot find where is the bios password chip. Can me anybody?

This model has 93C46. This is an 8 pin eeprom you can't miss it.
It must be unsoldered to be read properly, this is the circuit schematic needed:

To reveal the password you can use IBMpass 2.0 but the password uses byte swap.
To cut the cr@p, just search the eeprom and I will explain then what is to do.

I'm readed the eeprom with ponyprog. Microwire 16eeprom 93c46

How works the byte swap? If I using the IMBpass.

Sorry, I just saw your post. Very well, save the eeprom as .bin not .eep
The dump must be 128 bytes.
Now, open the dump with IBMpass 2.0, click the AA button and see at 0x38 and 0x40 offsets. There is the password, but is in byte swap usually and you need to do a quick conversion.
Ex: 123456 normal => 214365 -byte swap (Intel little-endian).

Hi!
I have the same problem with password on thinkpad 765D.This password is asked when booting after replacement of the hard drive. I don't find the EEPROM 93C46. I took out the assembly system board, but i didn't separate the PCBs. Is the 93C46 on the top PCB, on the bottom PCB, or on the little ones between?
Can somebody tell me where is it?, i am not an electronic guy...
Is it necessary to have a special soldering iron to get it?

im working on a 760XD so maybe it is similar to 765D

i found my chip '73af 93c46 m8' on the bottom of the largest board near the end

this is a picture of the under-side of the main board. click it. if you want it to zoom in so you can read whats written on the chips, click it again once the large image loads

Hi,
I am a new guy in this topic, but I see, this people are really specialist in this theme.
Some years ago I put a 760ED to the attic. Last week my boy found it, and he would like to use it, of course, I locked it with supervisor password.
My memory is really good, but I can not remember after 5 years.
So regarding with your instructions I removed the serial EEPROM 93C46 from TP and read the contents to a file.
But I think something is was wrong, because at the pwd adresses are these numbers: 00 02 00 00 00 00 02 00.
I tried again, but the result is the same.
Is it a password or not?
Could somebody help me to solve this problem?
