I've a big question. The mainboard of my beloved X31 died a few weeks ago. Now I wanted to use the harddisk for some other device. But the disk is locked. The passwords (master, user) are known but they are not acceped if I enter them with HDAT2.

Does anyone know if ther is some hashing, encryption, etc. within the IBM bios before sending the PW to the disk.

Is there an other way to unlock the disk (data recovery is not neccessary).

Greetings and thanks in advance,

SH0DAN

Yes, it is an encryption of course. Put that disk in another IBM laptop and you will be able to unlock it, since you know the pass

Hallo victor,

thank you for your fast response. I don't have access to any thinkpad with PATA support at the moment. Is there a possibility to translate the known password into the correct key for the harddisk without access to an other notebook?

The only thing that I've available is a new X61s (with SATA hd).

Greetings,

SH0DAN

IS possible with my software KeyON, but only if the passphrase was not enabled in the BIOS at the time you enrolled the HDP.

I will help you with the keyon, this is a free add-on for the HD security tools anyway, just let me know.
