Hello!

2years back this forum helps me a lot. Now I got another problem.

The Dell studio xps 1340 laptop has got a security chip, or not? It hasn't got a code on it, I can turn it on, and install the system. But I'm afraid, if I go to the net with it, it will be disabled, or send a report to somewhere, like the HP security chip.
What do you think about this?
Thanks

Mal

hi,

dell do have the computer trace utility , you find it in bios under system security. you can see if its enabled, static or disabled. once disabled its permately disabled. that is unless you run svctag through it. if it is enabled you run svctag programme through it enter new service tag and when you go into bios you will be able to permanently disable compu trace

Hello!

Hm, I try to fix it, but this is a brand new laptop, with win7. The svctag is not running under it, so I install the XP, but the program still not working. I search on internet forums, there are a few tutorial, how can I do it, but all are written about year 2004. The dell svctag is written at 2003,so I think, this is the reason, why not working.
Any idea, what can I do with it? The laptop is working perfectly, but I fear to connect it to the internet...
Thanks

Mal

your svctag programme will need to be latest version or if you put old version on bootable floppy you can get it to work.

i have dell service technitian cd rev a59 works on all dell notebooks
