Hi Victor. I must say, what a great site!
In attempting to retrieve my password on my T30, I broke my SDA and SCL eeprom legs (LOL). I get an "eeprom not found" on the simple curcuit. I remember reading on previous posts about the possibility of replacing the eeprom being replaced.
I believe my circuit is good, so do you think the broken legs are my problem?
I try to connect it to what I can see to be the remains of the SDA & SCL pins, and I get that eeprom not found message. If I DO need to replace the eeprom, what are the steps I need to take (i.e. where do i get it from, how to replace it, etc). As a newbie, I'm happy I was able to even build the circuit -- but now, I want to have a successful outcome.
I've included pictures... please help

The pictures ain't clear but looks bad around the SDA pin there.
If the legs are broken from the edge it's nothing much to do other than replace the eeprom.
There is a surgical way that consist in soldering 2 microwires on the two remaining legs and attach to the PCB traces, you can try
Else, when you'll get a good one, it will be our pleasure to help you to reprogram the dump.
Here is a clear picture of a T30 eeprom

Thanks for the info...How do I go about replacing the eeprom? Is there a special kind or model I need? Searching "24rf08 eeprom" on the internet doesnt really help much... Thanks for your help. |

Any 24RF08 8 legs should be good. You can use also PCA24S08 (Phillips)
Would be better to use a hot air station to dissolder/solder the chip.
I am really sorry for you, pal. |

will just desoldering the old eeprom and replacing it with a compatable one work?
i say this because i'm working on a x23 that's locked ...
i tried the driven circuit with no luck ... and when i went to remove the wires that i had soldered ... the SDA pad on the PCB came off ... when went to try to resolder it ... the leg broke off right where it goes into the amtel IC
it's such a shame if i can't fix this .... it's such a nice Pent III 866 system with a ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility
i did get a good deal on a x21 Pent III 600 on ebay that was basically stripped down, got it for only 45 bucks and boots to Bios fine ... no passwords
and i do see that they both have the same amtel chip ...
except on the bottom of the x23 amtel eeprom it has 0212 and on the x21 amtel eeprom it has a 0049
but both are 24RF08CN chips (8 pin) ....
i am pretty good at fine soldering .. just had a bad luck spell on this one i guess (i've resoldered all 40 pins by hand on a ide hdd before just to recover data off it where the plug was broken off the drive)
just wanted to get a idea if i should "cut" the amtel chip off the x21 sys and solder it on the x23 (or if i could find another cheap X20/x21/x22 planar board on ebay) also ... if i solder a "fresh" brand new eeprom on the x23 (such as the Phillips eeprom ic you mention) don't i need to flash it COMPLETELY with the x23's bios image ... and if so ... where the hell would i get that? |

The chip must be replaced with 24RF08 or at least PCA24S08.
Of course the original content or a dump from other x23 is needed.
I don't think x21 content will fit the x23 but there are %50 chances. try and see |
