After much saving, I just received my brand new Thinkpad T60p. Very beautiful machine and I havnt come across a machine that cuts through my work as effortlessly!... except that I blundered big time.

Turning it on, I immediately started to play with the security settings. I set the user password and HDD passwords - no prob. I then created the supervisor password to be my 'usual' one... all worked fine.

I then stumbled across the ability to use a passPHRASE instead of a passWORD for the main admin/supervisor account (in the BIOS), set it to something obvious at the time... and forgot it!

I really really need to get that cleared off... I have my fingerprints activated, user and HDD passwords OK. Basically, I can use the machine perfectly in everyway EXCEPT that I cannot utilise the Client Security Features of the machine.

Can someone help? If I have posted this in the wrong place please feel free to point it out. This is my first post on a newsgroup.. ever!

The only way to override the SVP password when it is passphrassed is to program the TPM chip.
You need the full package of the PC8394 programming tools, because you will have to read the chip binary, send it ot us, we will reset the lock and you'll have to write back.

while soldering the wires to the amtel chip..is there a rist of amtel chip getting messed up..the soldering machine that im using is 25watts..

There is always such a risk...
The wattage is good. Better to use one with a thermal regulator.

i have few ibm t20 laptops which have supervisor passwords which need to be broken...
my question is > can i use the same module, wiring, resistors, diodes for as many laptops as i want..of course i would have to solder it each and every time to da amtel chip..but besides dat can i just use the same old wiring and stuff for the rest of the laptops?

Don't ask the sales clerks, they event don't know what it is. Go to the red resistors cabinet. I found mine in the same drawer as the resistors.
Besides if you live in the US every stripmall has a Radioshack.
I have 3 within a mile from my house.

I like to add to this is that even 25 watt solder iron has a too large tip. Vile it off to a fine point. This will also decrease the heat convection.

I can tell all this with a certain authority, even that I'm retired I worked once a while for a job agency. My last temp job was with Leica Electronic Survey equipment in San Ramon where I did the PC board test and repair.
Man I was spoiled with their desolder and solder equipment. I desolder and soldered multiple pin chips in no time and used a 100x magnifier.
But at home and working on the project I had to modify the radioshack solder iron. But it works.

is the com1 port the 9 pin female serial port and is dat also called the so called reader in this process...also..how do i set up the wires on the com1 port after soldering the wires on to the amtel chip..
this is wat i have done so far...
i have soldered all da wiring to the chips..da only problem im having rite now is dat.im confused bout how to hook up the wires to the com port and how to attach it to the other computer..it says do ground first and den da rest...another thing..how would i attach the wires to the 9 pin female serial port..shud i solder the wires on dat too! plz answer fast..im in da middle of dis process..thank u.

also..if the scl sda and gnd wires overlap each other and happen to touch each other in the whole setup process..is dat a problem? or is dat kool? i try to avoid it but its kinda hard..im using .15 mm enamel coated thin wires..

I just want to say thank you for helping me unlocking my T43 I also want to let everyone know that his software works like a dream and no gimmick, it's the real deal, also if you have probs like I did he will support until your done. This is the first time in my life to received such support for a small price I'm using the laptop right this moment

I have built the reader, but before I crack open my T40, how do I know if I have a simple Supervisor pwd problem, or a TCPA problem? I can boot the T40 and use it just fine. The only problem I have is that I cannot edit some of the higher level BIOS functions such as changing the Pre-Desktop security level.
I rather not open the case and try the reader if I have a TCPA encrypted password on the EPROM.

Look in the BIOS: Security>Password and check if passphrase is enabled. If it is then the password is TCPA encrypted.
