Hi Victor
I have a few questions before I buy this package.
1.1 RPC8394 1.0 TPM reader: US $45 => After read the dump. What software need to read the password from the dump
1.2 WPC8394 1.0 TPM writer: US $65 => Do I really need to write the dump file back to the chip or just need to type the password that I readed from 1.1
1.3 Software manual - including instructions for unlocking Thinkpad T43, R52, T60, R60, Z60 and X60. => Do I need to open the case and need to solder ?
1.4 Interface diagram. => Which interface is better ? the MAX232 or the simple one ?
1.5 Free CRC repair OR TCPA password reset for one machine/unit. => What is CRC and TCPA ? what are they stand for ?
RPC8394 can be available separately. WPC8394 and CRC repair/TCPA reset service are available in full package or as an upgrade to full package. => How many reset service come with this full package ?
Thank you

Hi,
1. IBMpass 2.1 Lite or Editor (The Editor version, is going to be launched next week, I hope).
2. Password could be encrypted with TCPA functions (passphrase), in this case the chip content must be altered a bit. We name this "TCPA reset service". Else, of course the passowrd would be revealed with IBMpass. We found more than 50% cases to be passphrase.
3. It depends on model. T43/R52 really do not need to be opened.
4. The interface schematic is included in the kit, I only can say is driven by the serial port.
5. TCPA reset was already explained. CRC repair is done in the same manner, only that we correct the checksum errors (aka Cyclic Redundancy Check errors) in the chip binary.
6. One CRC or one TCPA reset. Additional services cost is $25, the regular price like for older models.

Hi Victor and Bob,
Could you post the picture of the Power On password and the BIOS password. When I turn my T43 on it asking for the password and don't let me go to windows. I did tried to removed the CMOS battery but it does not fix the problem
Thanks

- this is the Supervisor "SVP" and Power on password "POP" logo. Is the same logo for both of them.
- this is the hard drive password "HDP" logo. You can see the cylinder now near the padlock and the "1" which wants to tell us that is the first HD in the system. There aare also "2", "3" and "4" pictures stored in BIOS for each drive.
- HDP master. This when you press F1 at the HDP, this little guy on the left wants the HD master password. Very intuitive
All those pictures are originally extracted from the IBM (Phoenix) BIOS, they were in pcx format. _________________ Victor Voinea

No, is the SVP. POP was vanished when you did the battery trick.
Without the SVP you can't unlock the T43, so you need to read the PC8394 TPM chip and to find out the password. _________________ Victor Voinea

If is the same PC, mobo processor, HD, you can reinstall it.
Not on a different one, the license woudn't allow you to do that. _________________ Victor Voinea

I have some more questions:
- Is the interface for PC8394 tools the same as for 24RF08 tools (the driven or simple i2c interface?). If not, how can I see a wiring diagram in order to decide whether to buy it from you or rather solder myself?
victor wrote: | - this is the Supervisor "SVP" and Power on password "POP" logo. Is the same logo for both of them. |
- So should this prompt accept both passwords (POP and SVP)? And depending on which one it was I am presented with a locked down BIOS or an open one?
- I got my T60 with user HDP and master HDP set. no pop and no svp set. BIOS was unlocked. I set first a pop and then a svp. Now I can use the device with pop and user HDP, but neither prompt accepts the svp (though I'm pretty sure what I set it to). Did I make a mistake (e.g. double typo) when setting a svp or did I just activate the BIOS lock and the svp is identical to the master HDP my admin set (and which I don't have)?
- Regarding TPM: in the BIOS the "Using passphrase" setting is set to Disabled. Am I thus right, that RPC8394/IBMpassLite will be sufficient? If it should really be not, can I pay another $65 to upgrade to the full kit including TCPA reset? |

The serial port gotta be on the tech PC not on the T43, which obviously doesn't have any.
T43/R52/T60 dont need to be taken apart. _________________ Victor Voinea

Hi Victor, I have also been locked out of my T43. I forgot the SVP, other passwords are not enabled though. From what you have said, there is no need to open then T43 for recovering the SVP or solder anything? If so, I would consider ordering your package. Thanks for the reply in advance. |
