I hope you use R24C01.
It is possible that the chip to be set on other address, Open r24C01.ini and change "base_address=$AE" to "base_address=$00".
This will let the program search for the eeprom.

That's the one.

I figured out that you use the driven circuit, so make sure the batteries are brand new and you use the switches " /x /d /i" in the command line.

Else, I can't see other possible reason, are you sure you connect the SCL and SDA to the right pins?

sorry for new post but guess you missed my post in orginal victor

Sorry for the delay.

Only R24C01 creates 128 bytes dumps, but do not use it to read 24RF08, or you'll damage the chip data!
On the other hand, R24RF08 makes 1K dumps all the time, or you're having some sort of malware on your PC.

100% your chip is in good condition but the circuit and/or connections to eeprom are to blame. The usual reason in this case is a bad GND connection to the locked laptop or the COM port.

[Edit]
Sorry, I see that you're trying to read a 24C01. So the things are quite opposite - do not use R24RF08, only R24C01 Smile

Besides R24RF08 must give you "eeprom not found" because the 24C01 phisical address is different, but you say that randomly it reads something. The conlcusion is only one : Your COM1 port is not acting-port address/IRQ settings wrong or hardware issue.
