hi all,
i need a BIOS IMAGE ROM FILE for DELL LATIUDE D420
and also i want to know how to get it from .EXE file from DELL update files
since dell bios update files refuse to work or exract

Hi Victor
about D420 image it worked but it asks about password
i did remove some of new dell passwords by overwritting the bios
so i suppose this image have a password
any ideas?

I wonder, what DELL's did you unlock by reflashing the BIOS..?..
D420 as well as other new DELL's is not using the SPI BIOS to store the password. Is not in there, but in EC

hi bob ..the dell i unlocked by reflashing the bios is d1525 i installed a password after i backup the bios
then i reflashed it ..the pass gone
i did compare the two images
i found the addresses whiche they store the admin and power on passes in
they using a strange decoding byte by byte like thinkpad
i wrote my own table then all what i have 2 do is read these addresses and convert them
by z way i think it's the same in D420 untill now
what do u think in this model & D6xx like d630?
and what do u mean by the pass in EC ? what is EC?

EC is the embedded controller, which in new Dell's could be MEC5004.

That is quite interesting what you say about the D1525. Dell uses scancodes, we tested for D620/D820 as well. Are you saying that D1525 uses a different encoding? Can you give as a little more details, I sure want to see this, or fi you dont feel confortable here, you may just PM me.

You could do yourself a favour:
Download the image file from Dell (.exe), then run:

The password is not located in BIOS flash, sorry
