Sorry that i am newb to this and im not sure what i am doing. I was down loading a windows update and when i went to restart my laptop it wouldn't turn back on to XP and i can only go to the bios which is locked. I need to set it to boot from cd so that i can reinstall xp.
i have a r32 think pad type 2658
1.I don't know where to find the eeprom chip or what number chip it is? i have taken the mobo out but there are at least 10, 8 pin chips.
2.will the r24rf08 and ibmpass 2.1 work for my computer?
3 in unplugged the cmos battery thinking that would solve my password problems now im getting a date and time error will that mess up reading from the eeprom?

2. Yes.

3. You cleared the CMOS so the time/date needs to be set. This doesn't affect eeprom reading or else.

Do u think i can run it to my desktop pc i have it home it has a com 1 port?

A desktop PC has usually a much better serial port for SIPROG. The driven programmer is better, but if the port is supplying over +/- 4V is good enough for SIPROG too.

Keep in mind that you have to test the interface prior trying anything. Use itester.exe for that, it comes with r24rf08 kit.

Question

im just haven trouble trying to solder these tiny wires on to the eeprom any hints on how to do it without getting a huge chunk of solder on the mobo? Question

should i solder the wire first then just put it on the leg of the chip and heat it up to melt the solder a bit?

Test the interface with itester, it has a help window explaining how to interpret the results.

I guess you could use probes on this one, or better solder two needles at the end of each signal wire (SDA and SCL). Put the GND wire to VGA out shield, then simply keep the needles in place over the IC pin#5 SDA and pin#6 SCL. You may need sombody to help you execute the program.

I thought to insert a timer in the program to delay the execution Exclamation

1.how does the itester work im getting 1's on both outputs is that a good sign?

2.should it be connected to the comp that needs the dump? or not connected?

the wires are soldered and i followed your instructions but no bin file was dumped to the folder where the r24rf08.exe is installed

1. 1-1,0-0,1-1,0-0, and so on and so forth
2.Do not connect the interface to the R32's eeprom while running itester!

That picture..can you take it closer? I want to see the DB9 connector in much more details..

im getting some post beeps as well but that shouldn't matter i don't think

The DB9 is not clear, I can only guess the connections.

The dump should be in the same folder with the program, of course it should show the reading progress when its reading it.

I think the problem is with DOS commands, not the interface..

type this: c:\allservice\24rf08\r24rf08 dump.bin<enter> in any console box. good luck!

Oops. The DB9 connections are mirrored, I gotta say I expected it.
Pin 5 is at the other end...
So is the interface too Smile
