Yes, but you have to messure the voltage after attaching an USB device. Try to see if the USB 5V stays the same.
The best way is to connect a device that is only using the USB power, not the data, like an USB phone charger or maybe an USB lamp.
I am trying to see if there's a power problem or else. _________________ Victor Voinea

hello all ...about the usb port problems
if the 5V is okay .. u check the resistance between the GND and both data lines in the port [ d+ , d- ] u connect the red ohm-meter prob to the GND and the black prob to d+ and then to d- of usb port [ohm meter on diode measuement sign] , the resistance shout be between 500ohm to 700 ohm ..if not then for sure the problem in the south bridge if it is intel u'll see on it [NH- or FW82801DBM /CAM /FBM / GBM / HBM ] any way the problem is for sure from this BGA ic

In diode mode, the multimeter shows Volts, I guess you should say 500-700mV which is the open voltage for a diode. _________________ Victor Voinea

yes victor ..Absolutely true ..diode mode 500-700 mv but i tried to describe it simple since diode mode with low range ohm mode with buzzer in most multimeter _________________ the best thing in the world is electronics thanks God , |

I have caused the problem on my IBM somehow shorting +5v pin with d- or d+(cant remember). Now when i connect a HTC phone it starts charging. When e measure the values it shows 5.12V between GND and V power. D- and D+ show on diode mode (with red wire on GND and black on D+\D-) 569mV and 567mV. USB is enabled on bios. Please Victor i need any hint because i have a t41 for spare parts and i'm good on hardware.
